Tyrian 2000 not working

Hi !
Tyrian 2000 registered v 3.0 isn't working. I open dosbox 0.72, run tyrian.exe and here's the error massage:
WARNING: Unable to find Tyrian data files.
Stopped on file PALETTE.DAT.
Please reinstall the files or place the CD-Rom in your drive.
I tried downloading it 2 times, untick read only, tried tyrian2.exe, setup.exe and file0001.exe. Nothing worked.
I hope you can help. Thanks.
Marek
P.S. Nice site, I like the design and legal stuff. I like the Interviews as well. Rock on!

Yes, it doesn't work for me in DOSBox or Windows. This copy comes from World Tree Games' official Tyrian Repository (and I've just downloaded it again this minute), and it comes from a backup CD called "Tyrian 2000 Final Backup CD", which they warn was not their first choice, and might not work. They were certainly right about that. Apparently I originally grabbed it from a really excellent Tyrian fan site, so I didn't notice that Jason Emery's Tyrian Repository states that they don't want other sites sharing it anyway, so it's just as well that I take it down.

Strange. I remember downloading the file from the repository and it works fine for me.

What operating system and service pack are you running (both of you)? I remember it working it, too, but it sure as heck doesn't work now. I also can't get Duke Nukem 3D to work in Windows XP any more, although it still works in DOSBox. I know that it used to work, so I'm starting to wonder if SP3 has changed Windows in a way that is causing some games to stop being compatible with Windows XP.

Actually, I haven't tried running it on my WinXP/Vista machines (yet). But it runs like a dream on my
old P90 laptop with Win95. Now, I'm not sure exactly when I downloaded the thing, but it was a good while ago (years). Maybe the file on the repository's server got corrupted somehow?
Perhaps the version from
this website will work.

That's where I got it from originally. I'm sure that it used to work but, like Marek says, it doesn't any more. I double checked by downloading a new copy from Jason Emery's site, and it's the same story. I'm not sure what SP3 has to do with it, but that's the only thing I've changed about my computer since the last time I tried to play Tyrian 2000. A few days before that, I noticed that I couldn't get Duke Nukem 3D to run any more. You can't uninstall SP3, so it's not an easy to hypothesis to test.

I got mine to work after I copied the dats from the Translate directory to the upper level
I don't like T2k, it feels wierd (I mean its "developed" by 3 companies apparently) and lacks network play

"What operating system and service pack are you running?"
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit (x86) without Service Pack 1.

Okay, Windows Vista isn't capable of running DOS games (unless they run in text mode, like Zork or Kroz). Just to be sure here, are you running the game in DOSBox?

Yep. Version 0.72.

That still reasonably supports my theory about SP3. SP3 made Windows XP more Vista-like, so it could be that Tyrian 2000 does something in system memory that Windows no longer allows for security reasons.
