The highest ideal of this site is to preserve classic DOS games. The full versions of some games are no longer available for sale or as freeware, making it impossible for them to be enjoyed by future generations. Rather than simply encouraging individuals to email the authors and copyright holders to ask that they make the games available for sale or as freeware, I believe that seeing proof of public interest in the form of a petition will have a greater likelihood of achieving this goal. Only games that are no longer available to the public will have petitions created by this site.

Companies usually don't release games that they no longer sell as freeware because they are afraid of losing the copyright on their intellectual property, and want to maintain the right to release the game on other platforms in the future if they choose to. All petitions explictly state that we support the author's right to retain all rights to the program. It is not our desire to deprive them of the income they're entitled to for their hard work.

When signing one of the petitions, please add weight to your signature by including your full name. No personally identifying information will be recorded or revealed about you by signing. I encourage you to truthfully disclose your location in order to demonstrate broad appeal for these games and demonstrate marketability. If leaving comments, only leave positive comments and goodwill towards the recipients of the petition. We do not wish to coerce copyright holders or imply negative public relations or boycotts to achieve our positive goals. Shareware authors are famous for their gratitude and willingness to accomodate their fans, and great games are revived or released as freeware frequently in the current environment. I wouldn't create these petitions if I didn't fully expect them to succeed.

Arctic Adventure Petition
Commander Keen Discontinued Episodes Petition
Kroz Games Petition
Pharaoh's Tomb Petition
Zork Trilogy Petition

Apogee is aware of all petitions for Apogee games and has expressed interest in releasing all discontinued games as freeware if possible, on no specific timetable.

The following petitions have ended successfully:

Alien Carnage Petition
Bio Menace Petition
Major Stryker Petition
Thor Trilogy Petition

Apogee has released all four games as freeware! I wish to personally thank them for their generous gift to the gaming world.
