Zork I: The Great Underground Empire  1994
DOS Shareware (partial game)
Developed by Infocom
Published by Activision
Genre: Interactive Fiction
User rating: 0.0 (0 votes)
The first game in Infocom's legendary Zork series, Zork I predates DOS and started life on 8-bit computers running CP/M, and was later ported to practically every computer platform ever since. Like Colossal Cave Adventure, the nameless adventurer in this text adventure begins the game above ground near a small building and must find his way underground. You can collect and use items, explore, and, of course, die. Your goal is to collect the Twenty Treasures of Zork and install them in the trophy case. Points are awarded for solving puzzles and collecting treasures, to a maximum score of 350. Known for its humor and deeply immersive world, Zork sold over 400 000 copies and is one of the most popular text adventures of all time.
