Based on the Build engine from Duke Nukem 3D, Blood is a horror-themed first person shooter with pop culture references to a number of movies and games. Its originality and mood made it a cult classic in the genre and is one of the best selling games to use the engine. The "hero", Caleb, was a member of a cult called The Cabal that worshipped the dark god Tchernobog and rose to the rank of Chosen, Tchernobog's four top generals. The Chosen fail their master somehow and he kills them all. The game begins as Caleb rises from his grave and sets out to rescue his love and destroy his former master. Originally planned as a 3D Realms title, the rights were sold to Monolith Studios and the game was published by Atari. There are 4 episodes in this game, with only the first episode playable in the shareware version.
